Single-Effect Falling-Film Evaporation Pilot Plant
The Single-Effect Falling-Film Evaporation Pilot Plant is an advanced educational system designed for the study of industrial evaporation processes, heat transfer, and mass transfer in chemical engineering laboratories. The unit allows users to analyze the operation of falling-film evaporators used in the thermal concentration of liquid solutions.
The plant consists of a shell-and-tube falling-film evaporator paired with a shell-and-tube condenser. In addition, the system is fed by a dosing pump and operates under vacuum conditions thanks to a liquid ring pump. This configuration makes it possible to realistically simulate industrial vacuum evaporation processes.
The concentrated product and the evaporated solvent are collected separately in glass tanks. As a result, students can easily observe the different stages of the process and monitor the plant’s key operating variables.
The solution is therefore an ideal tool for hands-on exercises on the operation of industrial evaporators, heat transfer, and fluid concentration technologies. In addition, the system allows for an in-depth study of falling-film evaporation, which is widely used in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and food industries.
The automated IT-UMEA version also integrates a PID controller that automatically regulates both the steam flow rate to the evaporator and the vacuum level of the plant. In this way, the system optimizes operating efficiency and facilitates the analysis of process parameters.
